The state of New York will start holding public hearings next month on applicants for commercial casino licenses.

Dates haven't been announced but the hearings are due to start after Labor Day. The New York State Gaming Commission says it will award the licenses later this fall.

The applicants include Hard Rock International, which is owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida. The $300 million casino would be managed by Global Gaming Solutions, a subsidiary of the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma.

Further south, the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut submitted an application for a $600 million casino at the former Concord Resort Hotel in the Catskills. The region is about 90 minutes north of New York City.

The Seneca Nation is part of a project in the Southern Tier/Finger Lakes Region. The tribe would manage the casino but would not be providing development funds.
