Maine has room for two more gaming facilities, including one that could be set aside for tribes, according to a report commissioned by the state Legislature. WhiteSand Gaming talked to representatives of Maine's tribes as part of the study. The firm recommended a casino limited to tribes or a process by which tribes are granted preference. Tribes in the state are "subject to distinct disadvantages when exploring the potential for gaming to act as an economic engine for tribal economic development and self-sufficiency" because they can't follow the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, the report stated. The report also suggested the state could authorize a new casino in southern Maine but did not recommend a tribal preference. Get the Story:
