A federal judge concluded a hearing into the legality of the sweepstakes games offered by the Tigua Tribe.

Lt. Gov. Carlos Hisa said the games have generated revenues for education, health and language programs. "We were able to provide more, not just entertainment, but for the community," he testified, The El Paso Times reported.

The state, however, is trying to shut down the games, claiming they are illegal in Texas. Officials are asking Judge Kathleen Cardone to hold the tribe in contempt and to pay $72,000 for the costs of an investigation at the Speaking Rock Entertainment Center and the Socorro Entertainment Center.

State officials claim the tribe makes $40 million to $60 million a year from the sweepstakes games, the Times reported. It wasn't clear whether that figure includes concerts, events and other non-gaming activities at its facilities.

Cardone did not say when she would issue a ruling, the paper reported.
