Column: Stockbridge-Munsee Band back in Catskills casino race

After more than a decade of work, the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican Indians of Wisconsin is still trying to build a casino in the Catskills region of New York:

The Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans/Trading Cove New York casino proposal off Route 17's Exit 107 in Bridgeville might be a late entry in the quest for one of the up to two nonIndian Catskills casinos allowed by state law, now that it's officially in the running for a commercial casino.
But as longtime Catskills casino watchers know, the project — backed by the same company that helped develop Mohegan Sun — has been trying to land that elusive Catskills casino for more than a decade.
The tribe and Trading Cove have essentially completed the massive environmental impact statement that was needed to take the 330-acre site overlooking the Neversink River into trust for an Indian casino.
Now that same document will be used for the Town of Thompson review of the tax-paying project. It starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Thompson Planning Board meeting on Route 42 outside Monticello.
