The Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin is considering its options after tribal members voted to halt funding for an off-reservation casino.

The tribe already submitted a land-into-trust application to the Bureau of Indian Affairs and has reached agreements with the city of Shullsburg to host the casino. But what happens next is an unknown.

“Hopefully that this isn’t the end, because the tribe has invested many resources, time, energy into this project, and it would really be a setback if this wasn’t given a full-faith effort," spokesperson Brandon Thoms told WXPR.

The tribe might look to outside funding sources to continue the project.
