White Earth Nation receives permit for biomass power at casino

The White Earth Nation of Minnesota has received a permit to build a biomass power system at its casino.

The system would be used to provide heat to the gaming floor, hotel and events center at the Shooting Star Casino. Existing boilers would be used as backup.

The Environmental Protection Agency announced the permit in a June 24 notice in the Federal Register. The tribe is awaiting on additional funding from the Department of Energy before proceeding with the project.
