The Oneida Nation of New York is ending a lease with a liquor store in order to make way for a new Class II gaming facility.

The Yellow Brick Road Casino will be located in a shopping plaza in Chittenango. As part of the plan, the tribe is ending a five-year lease with Chittenango Liquors.

“To set the record straight, Oneida Nation is not terminating my lease, they are exercising their right not to renew the lease,” store owner Anne Lumbard told The Oneida Dispatch. The lease ends in September, the paper reported.

The facility is set to open in the first half of this year but an exact date hasn't been reported. It will feature 430 electronic Class II gaming machines, a 500-seat bingo hall, two casual eateries, a country-western bar and a general store.

The casino is based on a Wonderful Wizard of Oz theme . Chittenango is the birthplace of L. Frank Baum, the Oz creator who called for the "extirmination" of Indian people just days after the 1890 massacre at Wounded Knee.
