A leader of the Kickapoo Tribe of Kansas has been removed over concerns about his handling of gaming revenues.

According to Chairman Lester Randall, council member Steve Cadue failed to adjust the tribe's budget even though he knew that revenues at the Golden Eagle Casino fell "severely short" of projections. The amount of the shortfall was not disclosed in a press release.

Randall also said Cadue used a minor trust fund as collateral for a loan without informing the rest of the council. The trust fund contains casino per capita payments for tribal members under the age of 18.

Cadue, who has served as chairman several times over the last 30 years, plans to appeal his removal to tribal court. Randall, meanwhile, said the U.S. Attorney's Office has been informed about the situation.
