Lawmakers in Nebraska voted 27 to 16 on Monday to table a bill that would have changed the state's gaming expansion policy. Under the state constitution, all proposals to expand gaming must be put to a vote of the people. Sen. Paul Schumacher introduced LR10CA to put the decision-making power in the hands of the Legislature. Schumacher believed voters would have approved his amendment. But his proposal is now dead for the year. "We believe that there are other issues that should occupy more of our time," Sen. Beau McCoy, who introduced the motion to table the bill, said during debate on the measure, The Lincoln Journal Star reported. According to The Omaha World-Herald, voters have approved horse racing, the lottery and certain games for charitable purposes. They have rejected off-track betting, casinos and slot machines. Tribes in the state have campaigned to expand gaming but their proposals have been rejected as well. They are currently restricted to Class II gaming. Get the Story:
