Gamblers can ban themselves from certain tribal casinos under a new Class III gaming compact in New Mexico.

The New Mexico Gaming Control Board has allowed people to exclude themselves from non-Indian operated facilities. The same option will now be available at casinos owned by he Navajo Nation, the Jicarilla Apache Nation, the Mescalero Apache Nation, Acoma Pueblo and Jemez Pueblo.

“I think more people might take advantage of it and more people might be served by it,” John Rinaldi, a counselor with the New Mexico Council on Problem Gambling, told KRQE.

According to KRQE, only 214 people have banned themselves through the existing program at the Gaming Control Board.
