The Yakama Nation of Washington ousted the three members of its casino board last month, a move being challenged by one of the officials who was removed.

Shay-Anne Spencer served as chairwoman of the board of directors for the Yakama Legends Casino. She said the tribe never explained why she was being removed.

“They didn’t provide any evidence. I don’t even have anything to defend myself against,” Shay-Anne Spencer told The Yakima Herald-Republic. “I wholly deny any wrongdoing or violation of any laws.”

A tribal council document obtained by the paper accused the directors of mismanaging a $90 million expansion project at the casino. The work includes a 200-room hotel, a spa, more dining space and additional gaming space.

Spencer said the council lacks authority to remove the directors because they are elected by tribal members. She told the paper that she will file an ethics complaint.
