The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut is holding a job fair today to fill 200 positions at its casino.

Most of the positions are in non-gaming areas of the Foxwoods Resort Casino. But a few poker and blackjack dealers will be hired, The New London Day reported.

The tribe is looking to fill the positions as soon as possible so some people will be hired on the spot today. An executive attributed the hiring spree to a boost in business, some of it coming from the Tanger Outlets at Foxwoods that debuted last month.

"Number one, we have had an upturn in business," Foxwoods president and CEO Felix Rappaport told the Day. "Tanger has been a huge success. It’s only been open a brief time, but we’ve seen some nice impact throughout the week and on weekends."

Non-gaming revenues are up at Foxwoods, according to the facility's latest report. The outlet mall -- which put 900 people to work -- is part of a larger effort to diversify offerings at the facility.

The tribe, though, is still committed to gaming. The Pequots are working with the Mohegan Tribe to establish one more casino in the state that will compete with a new commercial facility just across the border in Massachusetts.

Gov. Dannel Malloy (D) plans to sign Senate Bill 1090 into law. The measure creates a two-step process for the new casino.
