Will the Chemehuevi Tribe pursue an off-reservation casino in Arizona? Columnist Christina Calloway asked Chairman Charles Wood for an answer:
Years ago, rumor had it that the Chemehuevi Indian tribe had intentions of buying the property and making it into a casino, which apparently is a hard thing to do if the casino is outside of the established boundaries of acquired tribal land.

Well, it never happened and it probably went a few rotations inside of the rumor mill before coming back again. One reader wants to know if a casino in Havasu will ever happen.

Of all the activities Havasu has to offer, I doubt gambling will become one of them.

Most states in the country do not have legal gambling and gaming venues outside of tribal lands. Arizona is no exception.

With that said, the Chemehuevi Indian Tribe purchased a sixteenth of an acre of the English Village but did not have any intention of building a casino there as the tribe felt it was not an appropriate place, according to Chemehuevi Indian Tribe Chairman Charles Wood.

Wood said the laws established by the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act make it difficult for the tribe to establish a casino here.
