The Seneca Nation announced a $40 million expansion of its off-reservation casino in downtown Buffalo, New York.

The Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino will see a 28,500 square-foot, two-story addition. There will be space for more slot machines, table games, a performance stage, a restaurant and retail.

“Eight years ago, the Seneca Nation invested in our Buffalo Creek Territory when little else was taking place around us to draw people to the Inner Harbor area of downtown Buffalo,” President Maurice A. John, Sr, said in a press release. “An unprecedented wave of development momentum, investment and growth followed. Today, Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino is at the epicenter for excitement in Buffalo.”

Construction will begin in October. The expansion is expected to open in early 2017.

The casino is located on land that was placed in restricted fee status under the terms of the Seneca Nation Settlement Act of 1990
