A table games dealer and a patron are accused of stealing more than $78,000 from the casino owned by the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut.

Roy Mariano, 52, allegedly gave Marlene Rivera, 36, extra chips at blackjack tables at Mohegan Sun. He then received some of the stolen money, authorities said.

Mariano has worked at the casino since it opened in October 1996, The New London Day reported. He told a tribal police officer that he participated in the scheme after he was reduced from a full-time employee to a part-time one, the paper said.

Both Mariano and Rivera have been charged with first-degree larceny.
