The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs will be drafting a new law to address their gaming rights, The Winnipeg Free Press reports.

The proposal is aimed at addressing roadblocks in opening new casinos, the paper said. The provincial government previously agreed to five casinos but only three are in operation and a fourth is finally moving forward after a lengthy process.

The draft also will address online gaming, the paper reported. Grand Chief Derek Nepinak said all types of games are on the table.

"We [are] going to implement our new law, hopefully in collaboration with this new provincial government, get affirmation, recognition of our right to exercise gaming inherently and hopefully move forward on a positive basis," Nepinak told the paper.
