Another Class III gaming compact up for review in South Dakota

The Yankton Sioux Tribe has reached a new Class III gaming compact with the state of South Dakota.

The proposed agreement authorizes the tribe to offer up to 500 slot machines at the Fort Randall Casino. That's the same number allowed in the current agreement.

But the new compact also recognizes that the tribe might want to add more devices in the future. It calls on the state to negotiate in "good faith with regard to that request."

Other tribes have been adding more slot machines to their facilities. A proposed agreement with the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe requires contributions to Moody County depending on the number of devices in operation at the Royal River Casino.

The proposed compact describes the contributions as payments for "governmental services." That's similar to a 2012 agreement in which the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate pays two counties for municipal services.

The Yankton Sioux Tribe's agreement will be the subject of a hearing before the South Dakota Gaming Commission on August 11. The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe's agreement will be considered on July 21.
