The Kalispel Tribe has nine police officers assigned to its casino in Washington, KREM reports.

Despite the seemingly small force, offender can't treat the Northern Quest Resort and Casino in Airway Heights as a haven. Tribal police have the authority to arrest Indians and non-Indians alike at the facility, the station reports.

“It's our duty to protect our public, our customers and team members to make this a safe environment," police chief James Wynecoop told KREM.

The efforts appear to be working. Compared to 2015, incidents at the casino dropped from 262 calls to 229 calls in the first half of the year, The Cheney Free Press reported.

The casino is located in the northeast part of the city, which accounts for the majority of calls, Sgt. Robert Swan told the paper. The Spokane Tribe is planning to open its own gaming facility in the same area.
