The Navajo Nation is celebrating the sixth anniversary of one of its gaming facilities.

The Flowing Water Navajo Casino in Shiprock, New Mexico, opened on October 13, 2010. It was only the tribe's second gaming facility at the time.

The tribe's gaming enterprise has since grown to include three facilities in New Mexico and one in Arizona, with more in the works. President Russell Begaye said the casinos have put 1,500 people -- most of them Navajo citizens -- to work.

“It’s good for our Navajo people to get a paycheck, go shopping and buy cars. It gives them a tremendous sense of pride that they can raise their families,” Begaye said last November.
