Non-Indians want input into proposed land return
Tuesday, January 13, 2004

Non-Indian landowners in the Klamath Basin told Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) on Saturday that they want more input into a proposed land return for the Klamath Tribes.

The tribes lost a 1.2-million acre reservation when they were terminated. Since being restored federal status, they have been seeking to reclaim their land base. Talks are underway with the Bush administration for 690,000 acres of national forest land.

Wyden said he would ensure that any proposal will be open to public comment. He vowed to oppose any Congressional riders.
