Jewish groups oppose Native leader's nomination

David Ahenakew, an Aboriginal leader whose comments praising the Holocaust netted hate crimes charges, has been nominated to sit on a Canadian-funded commission.
Jewish groups are outraged that Ahenakew's name was even presented. But sources with the Assembly of First Nations say the nomination has been rejected.
Ahenakew is the former chief of the Assembly of First Nations and former head of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations. He was charged with hate crimes after telling a newspaper reporter that that the genocide of Jewish people was justified. Later, he said the media was controlled by Jewish people.
