Tribal colleges form network to combat diabetes

Five tribal colleges in three states have joined the University of Minnesota to create a program to combat exploding rates of diabetes in Indian Country.
The Woodlands Wisdom partnership seeks to address chronic health problems by combining traditional knowledge with scientific methods. Students can earn credits at University of Minnesota by taking courses at the tribal colleges.
According to The Duluth News Tribune, diabetes has increased 550 percent among American Indian women and by 249 percent among Indian men in the last 30 years.
