Delaware Nation wants out-of-state land in trust

The Delaware Nation of Oklahoma has asked the Bureau of Indian Affairs to take land in Maryland into trust, The Annapolis Capital reports.
A developer in Maryland wants to transfer the property to the tribe at no cost. The arrangement would enable the developer to bypass local opposition to a proposed landfill.
According to the paper, Halle Cos. would be responsible for the operation of the landfill. The tribe would get 10 percent of the proceeds, or at least $1.4 million, a year.
The BIA has received the application.
