Editorial: First Americans finally get due respect
Tuesday, September 28, 2004

"America's first citizens are finally getting their due respect.

The Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian opened last week amid much fanfare and Native American ceremony. The museum commemorates the cultures of 500 Indian groups that called the American continent home.

On the National Mall in Washington, the building's round curves and southwestern look set it apart from the more traditional Classic and Greek architecture of the capital. It is also a sign that America is attempting to correct errors of the past."
