Texas AG asked to investigate Abramoff, Scanlon

Texas attorney general Greg Abbott is being asked to investigate the activities of two Washington lobbyists who took $4.2 million from the Tigua Tribe.

Lobbyist Jack Abramoff and public relations consultant Michael Scanlon approached the tribe after the tribe's successful casino was shut down. What they didn't disclose was their role in pushing for the casino's closure. State Sen. Eliot Shapleigh, a Democrat from El Paso, said their actions require a probe.

The Tigua Tribe is holding an emergency meeting tomorrow for tribal members to discuss the Abramoff-Scanlon situation. Tigua Gov. Art Senclair said he was offended by e-mails the lobbyists traded that described tribal clients as "morons" and "monkeys."
