Pueblo leader says lobbyists' high fees not worth it

Sandia Pueblo Gov. Stuwart Paisano won't disclose how much his tribe gave to lobbyist Jack Abramoff and public relations consultant Michael Scanlon but told The Albuquerque Journal the high fees weren't worth it.

Sandia signed contracts with Abramoff's law firm and Scanlon's public relations firm. The tribe was seeking passage of its land claim settlement at the time.

According to the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, Sandia and five other tribes gave $66 million to Abramoff and Scanlon, not including the amounts Abramoff's former law firm of Greenberg Traurig billed.
