Two Oklahoma tribal leaders endorse Coburn
Tuesday, October 26, 2004
The leaders of two Oklahoma tribes said they are personally endorsing Republican Tom Coburn for U.S. Senate against Democrat Rep. Brad Carson, a member of the Cherokee Nation.
Jeff Houser, chairman of the Ft. Sill Apache Tribe, and Ken Chambers, chief of the Seminole Nation, appeared at a press conference with Coburn yesterday. Coburn said it wasn't fair that larger tribes are able to have land placed in trust while others are forced to wait.
The Coburn campaign initially said nine tribal leaders would attend the press conference but only Houser, Chambers and Caddo Nation Chairwoman Larue Parker showed up. Parker said she agreed with Coburn's views of larger tribes but did not say whether she was endorsing him.
