Agua Caliente Band 'stunned' by Schwarzenegger
Friday, October 29, 2004
The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians said it was "stunned" by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's campaign against the tribe's development initiative.
The tribe is seeking local support for a plan to develop its own land Measure U will appear on the November 2 ballot in Palm Springs.
Schwarzenegger (R) made an unprecedented campaign visit to Palm Springs to oppose the measure. He lumped it to Proposition 70, the tribe's statewide gaming initiative, and said both would lead to more casinos.
Tribal leaders and officials in Palm Springs said Schwarzenegger's were out of line. Schwarzenegger has campaigned against Prop. 70.
