For years, the Nebraska Legislature has debated legalization of
casino gaming. But lawmakers never put the issue on the ballot until this year,
and now there's two separate gaming proposals before voters on Tuesday.
Nebraska's four federally-recognized tribes aren't actively involved
in either proposition. One allows electronic casino machines at
bars, restaurants and other facilities while the other legalizes
two casinos.
But if either is approved, tribes will be able to offer Class III games
on their reservations. Tribal leaders say they will expand existing
facilities while the Winnebago Tribe says it is interested in one
of the casino licenses.
