Yellow Bird: New Year brings out unusual traditions
Friday, January 7, 2005

"We have some extraordinary traditions in this country. The new year brings about many of the best and some unusual ones, too.

One of the most common is making New Year's resolutions. I rarely make resolutions because I seem to forget them soon after the newness of the year wears off. Yes, in the past I did resolve to lose weight but gained each year. I did intend to be more organized, yet when tax time rolled around, I spent days pawing and digging through receipts and small pieces of paper for the tax woman.

Traditions promoting good luck are common, too, but more obscure."
