Peltier said to have given false info in Aquash case

Imprisoned American Indian Movement activist Leonard Peltier was pressured to give false evidence in the murder case of Anna Mae Pictou Aquash, a lawyer said on Tuesday.

Peltier gave the information to U.S. prosecutors in hopes of helping his own case, a lawyer for a man charged with Aquash's murder said. But now he suggests he was coerced.

The allegation came during the extradition hearing for John Graham, a Canadian Native man wanted for Aquash's 1975 murder on the Pine Ridge Reservation. A court in British Columbia is deciding whether to turn him over to the U.S. to go to trial.
