Washington tribe still affected by excavation of village

Members of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe of Washington said they are still trying to cope with the excavation of a major village where hundreds of ancestors were buried.

The tribe participated in excavation of the site, which was being used for a state construction project. The enormous discovery prompted the tribe to ask the state to stop the work.

The state complied but tribal members told the Port Angeles Community Multicultural Task Force that the decision has flared up racism in the community.
