Yellow Bird: Accepting my mother's passing
Tuesday, February 8, 2005

"There are several phases of grief - disbelief, longing, despair and acceptance. Before the passing, there is a hope that if we stay with the loved one night and day, we can somehow keep him or her from crossing over to the Spirit World.

With growing, gentle memories of my mother, I accepted her passing.

Two months ago, when I drove east down the highway away from the final ceremonies at my mother's passing in White Shield, I felt guilty. I could go back to my life in Grand Forks, about 300 miles across the state, while my younger sister, Kay, would be faced with day-to-day reminders that our mother was gone."
