Churchill tells Suzan Shown Harjo: Kiss my ---
Thursday, February 17, 2005

Controversial University of Colorado professor Ward Churchill is lashing out at Indian activists who have repeatedly questioned his heritage over the years.

In an interview with The Denver Rocky Mountain News, Churchill said Suzan Shown Harjo can "Kiss my ---." Harjo, in a recent Indian Country Today column, detailed her longstanding claim against Churchill's alleged Cherokee/Creek/Cree/Metis ancestry.

"Suzan Harjo is no more entitled to interrogate me on that score than your average fellow bureaucrat," Churchill said.

American Indian Movement founder Clyde Bellecourt also questioned Churchill's ancestry more than a decade ago. He asked CU to look into Churchill's background but was told the school could do nothing about it.
