Group denies contact with DOI over tribe's recognition
Friday, February 18, 2005

A group that hired a Republican lobbyist to overturn the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation's federal recognition denies it has contacted the Interior Department.

Town Action to Save Kent held a meeting last month to discuss the hiring of Bradley Blakeman of the Barbour, Griffith & Rogers firm. Blakeman has worked for the Bush-Cheney campaign and for the White House.

The tribe questions whether the group violated a court order that bars contacts with DOI without all parties involved. The tribe wants to take depositions of state and local officials to find out.
