Audit: Boys & Girls Club money used for leather jackets

An internal audit has found that the office of Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. used federal grant money to buy leather jackets, The Farmington Daily Times reports.
The Navajo Nation Auditor General’s Office investigated the Diné Boys and Girls Club Expansion Office. Shirley created the office to bring the Boys & Girls Clubs on the reservation under tribal control instead of under a non-profit.
According to the audit, the expansion office spent $1,400 to buy leather jackets for staff, Shirley and Vice President Frank Dayish Jr. The audit found other management problems.
The 14 Boys & Girls Clubs on the reservation have been closed due to a funding dispute.
