Mark Trahant: Journalism more interactive than before

"Most journalism has been one-directional: We write, you read. Or sometimes you decide what to read by just turning the page.

The notion of interactivity -- so much a part of the Internet world -- hasn't quite fit into the newspaper tradition.

Sure, a small number of readers write letters to the editor, but only a tiny number of those letters ever get printed. We get more letters than we have space.

Other readers call and point out the error of our ways. These errors can be differences of opinions -- or factual slips that we humans make. This is important, but it's still one-on-one, one reader calling one editor."
