Lawsuit over Meskwaki Tribe's leadership dismissed

A federal judge on Wednesday said she wouldn't get involved in a leadership dispute within the Meskwaki Tribe of Iowa.

U.S. District Judge Linda Reade dismissed the case, citing a lack of jurisdiction. The suit was filed to contest an October 2003 election.

The tribe was in turmoil for several months before the election as two factions battled for control, resulting in the shutdown of the casino. The election cleared the way for the reopening of the casino.
