DeLay not worried about Abramoff's 'problems'

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) says he isn't worried about his ties to disgraced Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

DeLay and Abramoff have had a long relationship. Abramoff raised money for DeLay, found jobs for DeLay staffers and formed a partnership with ex-DeLay aide Michael Scanlon that is now the focus of a Senate and federal investigation.

The latest link involves overseas trips that DeLay took with Abramoff, including a visit to a golf course in Scotland. Abramoff tried to get tribes to finance golf trips, playing up DeLay's fondness of the sport.

This trip, however, was sponsored by the National Center for Public Policy Research, of which Abramoff was a board member at the time. The Center says it paid for all expenses but Abramoff, according to the National Journal, paid DeLay's way, including a $4,285 hotel bill for DeLay and his wife.
