County opposes tax bill benefiting Tulalip Tribes

A Washington county is opposing a tax bill that would benefit the Tulalip Tribes.
The Snohomish County Council voted 4-0 against House Bill 1721. The measure would return 85 percent of the sales tax generated at the Quil Ceda Village to the tribe, which operates the village where a Home Depot and other stores are located.
The county says it should be getting the tax revenues, not the tribe, and will testify against the bill at a hearing tomorrow. The county would lose $1.7 million a year, according to a state study cited by The Everett Herald.
