Churchill blasts investigation into alleged fraud

Controversial professor Ward Churchill spoke at UC Berkeley on Monday and blasted the University of Colorado's investigation into his alleged Indian identity and alleged academic fraud.

Churchill told a large crowd that the investigation was an attempt to silence free speech. He defended the essay about the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that led to the brouhaha.

CU issued a preliminary review [Report] last week that said Churchill could not be fired for writing the essay and making other incendiary comments. But a panel will review his claims of being Indian and allegations of plagiarism.
