Column: Tragedy turns political with arrest of son

"Tragedy has so quickly become political.

After word came that the son of Red Lake Tribal Chairman Floyd (Buck) Jourdain Jr. had been charged in connection with the March 21 shootings that killed 10 people, the 'moccasin grapevine' went into hyper-activity. According to rumors zipping through the vast reservation, Jourdain would resign as early as Tuesday.

The 'moccasin grapevine' -- news traveling person to person to person -- manages to be faster than cyberspace.

But no matter the culture, gossip and accuracy are not always traveling companions."
