Tribe to consider fate of failed Si Tanka University

The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota will meet to discuss the future of the failed off-reservation campus of Si Tanka University.

The campus in Huron was shut down last week amid financial woes the tribe inherited with the tribal college's purchase of the former Huron University. The problems put the on-reservation campus in Eagle Butte in jeopardy because Si Tanka lost federal funds meant for Native students.

Among other actions, the tribe could sever the charter of the Huron campus to ensure the Eagle Butte campus receives federal funds.
