Cabazon Band forced to reduce per capita payments
Monday, May 30, 2005

The Cabazon Band of Mission Indian has reduced per capita payments to tribal members in light of the California tribe's ongoing financial crisis.

According to The Palm Springs Desert Sun, the payment is normally $10,000 a month. Second vice chairman Mark Benitez, would not say how much tribal members are receiving now but told the paper "They were not very happy" with the reduced amount. The tribe only has 32 members.

Benitez also confirmed that the tribe is behind at least six months on some of its bills. He loaned the tribe $268,000 of his own money.
