Oklahoma tribe's lawsuit claims large portion of Ohio

The Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma has filed a land claim against the state of Ohio, demanding more than 93,000 acres in the northwest part of the state and hunting, fishing and gathering rights in a large area of central and southern Ohio.

The tribe filed the claim after its attempt to negotiate a Class III gaming compact were rebuffed by state officials. The state says the claim has no merit.

The tribe says the 1795 Treaty of Greenville affirms its rights to the land.
