Montana reservation schools fare poorly on NCLB

Public schools on reservations in Montana are faring poorly when it comes to the No Child Left Behind Act, The Great Falls Tribune reports.
On six of the seven reservations, at least one school failed to meet the "adequate yearly progress" standard. On the Blackfeet Reservation, the elementary schools, the middle school and the high school failed. On the Rocky Boy's Reservation, all three schools didn't meet the standard.
The Flathead Reservation was the only one where all the schools passed. On the Fort Belknap Reservation the high school passed for the first time while the elementary school has passed consistently. All public schools have been tested under the NCLB for the past three years.
Educators say Indian students face greater challenges due to poverty, limited English skills,
fewer qualified teachers, high drop out rates and frequent moves by Indian families.
