Poll: 63 Indians want 'Fighting Sioux' nick changed

A poll of 100 American Indians in North Dakota found that 63 want the University of North Dakota to change the "Fighting Sioux" nickname if requested by Sioux tribes.

Pollsters contacted 100 Indians in the state by phone. Around 61 said they weren't offended by the name while around 38 said they were. The margin of error was plus or minus 9.8.

In contrast, of the 605 people contacted for a separate poll, 95 percent said they weren't offended while only 5 percent said they were. This poll included 30 Indians.
