School won't fight NCAA policy, moves to change name
Wednesday, September 28, 2005
Officials at Midwestern State University are giving up the school's "Indians" nickname in response to the NCAA's policy against the use of Indian mascots during post-season tournaments.
The school decided not to appeal after being told it would not be successful. The school doesn't have a link to any particular tribe or tribes, although members of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma have visited the campus twice in the past 50 years.
A committee is now taking input on a new mascot and nickname [

The "Indians" mascot is no longer in use.
