Federal Recognition
Schaghticoke Tribal Nation seeks BIA documents

The Schaghticoke Tribal Nation of Connecticut has asked a federal judge to force the Bureau of Indian Affairs to turn over documents related to the tribe's recognition.

The tribe was denied recognition in October. Two months later, the tribe says the BIA is refusing to provide a copy of the Federal Acknowledgement Information Resources database that is used in federal recognition cases.

The BIA says it will give the tribe an update copy of the Microsoft Access database after an appeal is filed in court. The tribe says the BIA's position violates an existing court order.
