UND president meeting with tribes on campus

University of North Dakota President Charles Kupchella has held meetings with two tribes on campus and is scheduling meetings with two other tribes.

Kupchella met with the Spirit Lake Nation council on Sunday. Some of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe council visited before the Christmas break.

Kupchella is holding the meetings after the state Board of Higher Education called on UND to work more closely with the tribes due to controversy over the school's "Fighting Sioux" nickname and logo. Most Sioux tribes oppose the use of the name.
